A good old friend from Japan commented about my recent photo from Seto in his blog page (Japanese).
Tilt-shift lens makes things looks like a miniature model.
So I’ve created a limited time special page just for TS photo, enjoy...

I met Sugiyama san when I’ve moved to NYC year ago. He has a very nice restaurant “Sugiyama” where he produces a traditional Japanese Kaiseki style dining experience. I always sit at the counter so I can see his cooking and how he presents food to his customer, carefully arranging each pieces so you can appreciate all flavor and texture of food.
His wife and Sugiyama san both share same hometown in Japan with me so we often talk about our hometown, music, and food. He plays drum (R&R), and his daughter plays piano.
I had an opportunity to listen to her recital yesterday at the Kaufman Center Merkin Concert Hall.
His daughter looks like her parents but plays very different type of music, still nice to know a family who shares the joy of music.
For more photo from her recital, click here.

Krispy Kream opened its Tokyo store exactly 3 years ago in Shinjuku, across the street from my old office. This store always had a long line, often the line stretching to Tokyu Hands. My co-worker (software architect) and I used to laugh at mindless sheep who are waiting 90 minutes to buy donuts. We were the black sheep, not following the line, asking a question, and causing a trouble.
Three years since then, the fame of Krispy is gone but I’m still a black sheep.

Thanks to my friends, my music taste expanded in the past few years from Pop, Jazz and Classic to Punk. No one is too old to express him/herself in a simple beat and raw energy.

25 years later, we can still sing together.

At Narita airport
Many of my friends gave me horrifying stories arriving Tokyo international airport last two months. As a plane lands, a dozen of men in blue bio-hazmat suits rush into a plane, pointing an IR body temperature sensor to passengers, taking few hours before deplaning if they find one with high body temperature, then not being able to go back to work or go out for two weeks...
My quarantine was a simple one, fill out the form asking if I’ve been feeling flu like sickness, fever, or running nose. Then present this questioner at the gate.
I feel quarantined and safer now (no)

BNE, I have seen this sticker in Tokyo too. But not sure what BNE means. Branch if Not Equal to zero? Not likely... Web search finds similar blog entry about people finding BNE sticker in Japan and worldwide, but unable to pin point the creator.

On “A” train between 23rd St station and 42nd St station.
He kept staring at a the subway passenger in front of him.
First, he appeared as a creasy homeless person (as usual) but his hand created one of the most amazing portraits within 5 minutes of ride, entertaining all passengers around him, giving a piece of art in everyone’s mind. Then he gave the drawing to the passenger as he stood up to take off. They don’t know each other, I don’t know his name, but I may see him again on the “A” train.

Manhattanhenge

All maps are drawn as if Manhattan Island is exactly aligned north-south but that is a convenience, not a true geography. Manhattan is about 30 degree off.
Twice a year, the sunset and sunrise exactly aligns with east-west street grids on Manhattan. This is called Manhattanhenge.
As I held my camera at the intersection of Madison and 34th Street around 8:15 on May 30th., the sun was casting its beam from New Jersey or Hudson River to all the way down to East River.
